Lord, we do not understand this dreadful disease, but we are amazed
at how You manage to work in the lives of many who by it have been
afflicted.  The disease manages to drain the human body's energy, but
cannot touch the human spirit. 

I have seen muscles deteriorate, but I have seen a spirit grow
strong. 
I have seen one who could no longer rely upon her own strength turn
to You and rely upon Your strength.  I have seen one whose hands
could barely function, who now places herself in Your hands.  I have
seen one who could do very little physically, who was able to radiate
love and peace to whomever she would meet.  I have one whose arms
could no longer reach up who was able to reach out to others with ALS
and help them to grow. 

So many of us have prayed for healing of our loved ones.  And as
humans, we think of physical healing; and we wish that our prayers
would be answered.  You have heard our prayers, and as the Loving
Father, you know that what is truly important is spiritual healing;
and you have answered our prayers.  You have helped our loved ones
with Lou Gehrig's Disease grow strong in a way not visible to human
eyes.  Help us, the families, friends and caregivers to also gain
this same strength - which comes only from You.   

We give thanks for the confidence that we find in  Your promise
that "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.  They
shall mount up with wings as eagles!!"
